Genetic Characterization of a Plum Landrace Collection from La Palma, Canary Islands

نویسندگان

چکیده

A plum collection located in the island of La Palma, Canary Islands, composed twenty-nine European and Japanese plums was analyzed using nine simple sequence repeat (SSR) highly polymorphic loci. First, a cytometry flow analysis performed to determine ploidy level. Sixteen accessions turned out diploid thirteen hexaploid. According morphological characteristics, fourteen sixteen were assigned Prunus salicina, two P. cerasifera. All hexaploid domestica. The 29 compared SSR markers with twenty-two domestica maintained at CITA germplasm Zaragoza, Aragón, Spain. principal component (PCA) clustering approach grouped according species geographical location, while some synonyms homonyms found within Palma accessions. components explained 80.3% (67.3% 13%, respectively) total variance. tree generated UPGMA hierarchical Bruvo distance main clusters level assignment. STRUCTURE clearly differentiated from those collection. results obtained could be used for management conservation purposes this valuable local germplasm.

Plant invasion and speciation along elevational gradients on the oceanic island La Palma, Canary Islands

Ecosystems that provide environmental opportunities but are poor in species and functional richness generally support speciation as well as invasion processes. These processes are expected not to be equally effective along elevational gradients due to specific ecological, spatial, and anthropogenic filters, thus controlling the dispersal and establishment of species. Here, we investigate specia...

Cumbre Vieja Volcano -- Potential collapse and tsunami at La Palma, Canary Islands

Geological evidence suggests that during a future eruption, Cumbre Vieja Volcano on the Island of La Palma may experience a catastrophic failure of its west flank, dropping 150 to 500 km of rock into the sea. Using a geologically reasonable estimate of landslide motion, we model tsunami waves produced by such a collapse. Waves generated by the run-out of a 500 km (150 km) slide block at 100 m/s...

Internal structure of the western flank of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, La Palma, Canary Islands, from land magnetotelluric imaging

[1] Large‐scale mass wasting is a natural part of the evolution of volcanic islands, where deformation and indications of flank instability, such as large‐scale faulting and seismic and aseismic slip are common. The Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma (Canary Islands) provides an ideal setting to address fundamental questions about the structure, evolution and stability of island vol...

Ar/Ar ages from transitionally magnetized lavas on La Palma, Canary Islands, and the geomagnetic instability timescale

[1] A detailed study of 43 lava flows comprising two stratigraphic sequences exposed along the north and south walls of Barranco de los Tilos on the island of La Palma, Canary Islands, reveals a complex, temporally segmented record of geodynamo behavior that contains no less than three distinct geomagnetic events. The Matuyama-Brunhes (M-B) reversal is recorded in five transitionally magnetized...

Plant genetic diversity in the Canary Islands: a conservation perspective.

The Canary Islands are an Atlantic volcanic archipelago with a rich flora of ∼570 endemic species. The endemics represent ∼40% of the native flora of the islands, and ∼20% of the endemics are in the E (endangered) category of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. A review of allozyme variation in 69 endemic species belonging to 18 genera and eight families is presented. The averag...
